You can just walk out of the house and spot ships sailing the Amsterdam-Rijnkanaal (channel). At 1 kilometer there is the Leidsche Rijn centre which has all the stores you need. It's close to the train station Leidsche rijn (1km) and the Utrecht central station (3,3km). Nearby is the entry of the highway A2 which takes you to Amsterdam.
